April Fool´s day ou dia da mentira

Pois é, dia 01 de abril é o April Fool´s day ou All Fool´s day.

Take a look at this list of the best 100 hoaxies: http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/aprilfool/
I specially recommend this list. I loved the tattoo sleeves, what about you?

Beach or Bitch? Homophones

Me conte seu resultado, comente no post and good luck!

Se preferir, prepare-se aqui antes;

"Segue a resposta maissssssss elaboradaaaaaaa. "

Muffins!!!!!!!! One of my passions!

Well, my special friend, twin soul, sister, Nana from Tudo por 1,99 delighted me with this gift. She advertised Learn English with Kisa blog in a cute way, as she always does things (cutely...).

So, I have to post here the translation to this delicious receipt after people ask for the translation on her blog. If you want the translation, go there!

Ingredients:(Mixture makes 12 muffins)

1/3 cup oil

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 egg, lightly beaten

1/2 cup of NESTLE caramel top 'n' fill

1 1/2 cups self raising flour1 packet choc chips (or 1 cup)

1/4 cup milkCombine oil, sugar and egg in bowl.

Stir in Nestle caramel top 'n' fill.

Lightly fold in flour and remaining ingredients.

Cook in moderate oven 180 degrees for about 20 - 25 minutes (in muffin pan).

O que? Tu não sabe inglês? Eu também não. Então vamos dar as mãos e pedir ajuda nesse blog aqui. Se ela nos ajudar a traduzir a receita, a gente dá uns muffins pra ela né?
Ok, os muffins da Nana são mesmo uma delícia. Traduzirei se for pedido, hein! Valeu Nana.

Do you like Promos?

So, if you like promos and gifts, here is a good chance! Read the post http://learnenglishwithkisa.blogspot.com/2009/03/saint-patricks-day.html and answer:

a) What is the plant that represent St. Patrick´s day?

Post your comment with the answer. There will be a raffle on March 16th and the winner will receive an U2 cd.

It is a good way to stimulate you reading in English and writing in English. But you can answer in Portuguese. Reading is already a big thing, ok?

Why U2? You may ask! Because they are an Irish band and it is an Irish date.

Notice a curious thing: U2 chose this name for the band because the pronunciation is like YOU TOO (they wanted everybody would be touched by their songs and also because it is the Air Force Spy plane (read more here). Did you know it?

Talking about it, let´s review countries and nationalities. Do this exercise and write a comment telling me about your performance, ok?

Do you know that nationalities have to be written in CAPITAL letters?

Eg. Braziliam, Canadian, Spanish.

Good luck!

March 8th - International women´s day

First I want to congratulate all the women for these special date! Women are special and have to be well treated. It is sad to know this date started being celebrated after a big number of women who died on a factory fire accident, but nowadays it is used to remember different and big women style, to improve the women´s proud, to make women think about their rights, etc.

I used to make a happy hour at home, with men playing in a band, my cousin Tony making drinks and we would be beautifully dressed to receive the cumpliments. This year I am very busy and maybe the happy hour will become a brunch...or a lunch...I don´t know.

Second, let´s think.

Is the women´s day a chauvinist day or not?
The funny men would say, ok, you have only one day a year and all the other days are men´s days...

Or they can celebrate you with a special dinner (but let you all the dishes to be washed)...

Or give you flowers, a romantic dinner in a restaurant, or taking you to dance.

I read the VIP of this month and the author tryes to wonder what are they supposed to do on Women´s day. We can give them a little hand.
So, if you think the date is supposed to be celebrated, write a post with suggestions of celebration or how you would like to celebrate it and elect a woman you recognize as a woman symbol and why.
The best posts will be published and the best answer will give to the winner a lipstick from AVON.

Participate!

Saint Patrick´s day

Ok Guys, on March 16th, the world or Europe and North America being more specifically, celebrate St Patrick´s day. It already happens around here, after Halloween, Valentine´s day, it is one more date, globalization gives to people like me who loves celebrating. More celebrations, more excuses for meeting people and having fun.

As an English teacher, I used to wear on this date an ALL GREEN outfit (like a leprechaun), the only thing I still don´t have is the hat...I real need a green leprechaun hat...and I keep celebrating it.

First because I love traditions and Ireland is a beatiful and interesting country...second because I love international dates and see the people celebrating, third because I am a party-girl, so as Ze Leonardo already stated...she has the habit of celebrating "everything"...that´s right!

but, the point is that this post is to let you know about one more international date and while reading the post and giving your opinion (even in English or Portuguese), you are improving the English usage you have...

Go into this website and learn about it. There are phrases in Portuguese and in English and understand why this celebration happens.

A brief story you can see fully here: where I picked up this text:

"St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years.
On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink, and feast—on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage."

My point of view and tips for you:

This day is one of the most famous date in Ireland (The U2 band land) and people use to wear green, drink green beer and wear a leprechaun hat. But why Ireland celebrates this day? It says St. Patrick made all the snakes run over the country and it maybe is a metaphor to express the Christianism won protestantism (the snakes). They are a catholic country, then. So immigrants in all over the world celebrate this date and Irish culture. It is more than a catholic celebration, but culture. They have music festivals, theater, green beer, people wear green stuff...
To inspire:

See the blog Bem Legaus and see a great idea of getting in the mood, using a special running shoe by Nike.

Watch the film P.S. I love you and see the Irish guys style, song and landscapes. (If you watch films, you get culture, behaviour, effect phrases, slangs...I give you a big 10 if you put no subtitles or subtitles in English, at least once, then later you put them in Portuguese, do you accept the challenge)? Movies are a good way of improving English, believe me!

Check up the list of Pubs UOL prepared in different cities in Brazil and celebrate with special drinks and a lot of fun (it is a good excuse for partying in a Monday night!). Or create a party with your love wearing a green lingerie and serve green drinks (be creative to break the routine) or invite some friends over with leprechauns, Irish drink, Irish songs...
So, the challenge, write here in the comment what is the plant that is used as a symbol of St. Patricks day.
I will make a raffle on St. Patrick´s day and mail you an U2 cd.
Results on March 16th.
