Are you ready for Halloween?

Many people want to celebrate Halloween, even in Brazil. Some people think it is not good to celebrate the other´s culture, but as an English teacher, I normally use the international dates to have extra ideas and stimulate students to read, listen, write and read. The extra dates are real good to know a little about the English speaking countries.
But as a Braziliam woman, I am a huge fan of the national traditions. I celebrated my birthday this year, listening to forró, a national rythm. A typical forró party, with a typical forró group.
So, I am total confortable to say that it is not a matter of forgetting our culture and traditions. Everyone should know their own culture and live it. Also, having a chance to know other culture is fantastic!

Halloween - brincadeiras e tradições

No dia 31 de outubro, comemora-se o Halloween. No Brasil, ficou traduzido como o dia das Bruxas. Nos Estados Unidos é famoso pelas carinhas assustadoras em abóboras, crianças fantasiadas e a frase: "Trick or treat", que aqui no Brasil ficou conhecida como "Gostosuras ou travessuras". quem não estiver preparado com doces para as crianças que batem a porta, levará um susto, ou sofrerá com uma travessura. Parece uma mistura de carnaval e Cosme e Damião...

Mas, a origem da data é Celta e pelo calendário Celta, 31 de outubro é o último dia do ano (como se fosse o nosso Reveillon). Significa Dia de todos os santos e acredita-se que nessa data, abre-se um portal imaginario e os seres de outro plano visitam a terra e pegam seus pedidos.

Uma das tradições é escrever pedidos e queimar a meia noite em um caldeirão.

Acredita-se que nos Estados Unidos, houve um pouco de fantasia e imaginação para traduzir o conceito de seres de outro plano serem monstros e as tradições feitas e seguidas pelas sacerdotisas celtas, devem ter trazido imagens de bruxas e assim foi.

Fantasias e uma mesa de guloseimas para uma farra em casa e ensinar expressões ou ter motivos para falar em inglês com os pequenos, pode ser um a boa. Eles cantam : "The pickety witch, the pickety witch, who's got a kiss from the pickety witch?" E ela sai pra pegar. Quem for pego é a próxima "pickety witch". Uma versão  da nossa cabra cega.

Keep calm and create your picture!!!

Hi Guys!

Today´s post is an invitation to visit a link and read instructions in English and create your own Keep Calm picture.

Do you know the history of this picture?

The British government created it in 1939  the picture with the slogan and it was printed and distributed looking forward having the population motivated. They were afraid as an invasion and war were rumors all around.

So, this picture now is public domain and many people started using it in decoration. People that know how to create and manipulate design, changed colors, pictures and slogan.

But if you, like me, cannot do it by yourself, have fun and create your pictures. It is a good idea to print and frame it to present someone you  like.

I will be happy if you e-mail me your pictures. I will post the best ones here.

So, October is about Halloween...I love Halloween. Since I was a child!

Witches always got my attention, specially the good ones and the mythic atmosphere.

Well, hope you motivate yourself after checking up this Martha Stewart ideas for decorating a porsche.

I rememember a Halloween party, my friend Rossana, from Tudo por 1,99 had cut many bats and ghosts to decorate it!

Let´s see if I get envolved and find sometime to decorate my house and have some fun with real classes students and also, my son and husband!
